The Mirage MR-HP-172 255/55 R18 is a wide, XL-rated tyre in the MR-HP172 range, developed for crossover and luxury SUV applications. Mirage positions this pattern around responsive road handling, wet and dry traction, and controlled high-speed performance. This exact size combines a 255 mm section width, a 55 aspect ratio, radial construction and an 18-inch rim diameter.

The MR-HP-172 uses an asymmetric tread layout, allowing different sections of the tyre to perform different functions. Wide circumferential grooves provide direct channels for water evacuation from the contact area, helping the tyre maintain grip when roads are wet. The outer rib and shoulder arrangement is designed to support cornering stability, while the silica-enriched tread compound contributes to wet and dry traction together with reduced rolling resistance.

Wide SUV Fitment with an 18-Inch Rim

At 255 mm wide, this size provides a substantial footprint for SUVs and crossovers designed around this specification. The 55 profile gives a nominal sidewall height of approximately 140 mm, leaving considerably more sidewall between the road and wheel than lower-profile 20-inch MR-HP-172 sizes. This makes the 255/55 R18 a distinctly different fitment even where another size uses the same 255 mm tread width.

For Pakistani driving, this specification can suit vehicles that require a wide SUV tyre for city use, motorway travel and longer intercity journeys. The tyre's water-evacuation channels are relevant during wet conditions, while its road-focused tread layout is designed around stable paved-road performance.

Mirage publishes the 255/55 R18 MR-HP172 with a 109W XL specification. The tyre should only be fitted where 255/55 R18 is approved by the vehicle manufacturer and where the required load index, speed rating, wheel width, overall diameter and suspension clearance are satisfied. The markings on the physical tyre should always be checked before installation, and cold inflation pressure should follow the vehicle manufacturer's recommendation.

MR HP-172 Technology

Asymmetric tread pattern. The MR-HP-172 uses different tread zones across the tyre rather than a symmetrical layout, allowing the inner and outer sections to perform different road-handling functions.

Wide circumferential grooves. Longitudinal channels running around the tread provide direct pathways for moving water away from the contact area, supporting wet-road drainage and reducing water build-up beneath the tyre.

Outer straight rib and shoulder design. Mirage uses a more stable outer tread area designed to support cornering grip and directional control during paved-road driving.

Silica-enriched tread compound. The MR-HP-172 uses a silica-enriched rubber compound developed to support traction on both wet and dry road surfaces while contributing to reduced rolling resistance.

Road-focused performance construction. Mirage positions the MR-HP-172 for crossover and luxury SUV applications where steering stability, paved-road grip and controlled road behaviour are key requirements.

XL construction in these sizes. The 255/55 R18, 255/55 R19, 255/50 R20, 275/40 R20 and 275/45 R20 versions covered here are published as XL specifications, although their individual load indexes and speed ratings differ.

Radial construction. All of these MR-HP-172 sizes use radial construction, represented by the R designation in the tyre size.

Understanding Tyre Size 255/55 R18 / How to Read Tyre Size

Vehicles with 255/55 R18 Tyre Size

What does 255/55 R18 mean?

255/55 R18 is the tyre size.

255 is the maximum width of the tyre in milimetres(mm). When the vehicle is fully loaded its width can expand maximum upto 255 milimetres(mm).

55 is the ratio among width and height of the tyre from its rim. it means that the height of the tyre is precisely 55% of the 255mm. Lower ratio improves road grip, but it reduces comfort to some extent.

R – refers to the method the tyre is produced. The letter “R” is found on all modern car tyres. It indicates the radial structure of tyre cosntructed with steel wires.

18 represents the diameter of the rim. It is a measurement in inches(“). This number should be rememberd as it is the measurement of the rims. It has to match exactly to what is mentioned in the car manual.

This particular tyre is with the size of 255/55 R18.
